Machinable ceramics is a composite polycrystalline material composed of synthetic mica crystallites and glass phases. Due to the cleavage of mica crystallites, it has good machinability. It can carry out various processing such as turning, milling, planing, grinding, drilling, cutting, tapping, etc., and can achieve high precision without heat treatment. The material has excellent insulating properties, no pores, high temperature resistance, low temperature thermal shock resistance, no outgassing, high vacuum insulation in nuclear energy, microwave. It is widely used in high-precision non-magnetic structural frames of aviation, aerospace, electronic instruments, ultra-high voltage insulation in motors and other fields, and structural components in strong corrosive environments. It can also replace the difficult-to-process alumina and boron nitride ceramics because of its easy processing.
